Ask a question
Tell me a little about your business and I will come back to you.
Thank you, your enquiry has come through.
I read every enquiry myself and I will be in touch shortly. If it is urgent you are welcome to call me on 0432 150 965.
Sound familiar
The three things small businesses call me about.
These come up more often than anything else.
Payroll you are not confident in
Broken shifts, sleepovers, travel time, allowances and penalty rates under SCHADS, or a construction EBA the software was never set up for. Underpayments compound quietly and cost far more to fix than to prevent.
BAS that arrives as a shock
Coding that has drifted through the quarter, GST claimed where it should not be, and a bill that lands with no warning. Reconciling as you go turns the quarter into a formality.
Books your accountant has to redo
If the file needs cleaning up before the return can be done, you pay accountant rates for bookkeeping work. Keeping it right through the year is cheaper.
Services
What I do.
Take the whole lot or just the part that is causing trouble. Most work is remote, on site around Brisbane and Ipswich when that suits better.
Bookkeeping
Bank reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, invoicing and day to day processing, kept current instead of caught up in a panic.
BAS and IAS
Prepared and lodged as a registered BAS agent, with the GST coding reviewed before it goes to the ATO rather than after a query comes back.
Payroll and awards
Pay runs, Single Touch Payroll, super, leave and entitlements. Award interpretation for SCHADS and construction industry EBAs, checked by someone who has done it for years.
NDIS plan management
For plan managed participants. Provider invoices processed, budgets tracked across categories, funding managed and records kept clear.
Reporting and cash flow
Monthly management reports in plain language, plus cash flow tracking so payroll, super and BAS are planned for rather than discovered.
Catch up work
Months behind, or a file that has never quite been right. Sorted out first, then kept in order so it does not happen again.
Who I help
The three groups I know best.
These are the areas I have spent the most time in.
NDIS providers
Payroll under the SCHADS award, plus the record keeping and compliance side of running services. This has been the focus of my accounts and payroll work for the last few years.
Construction businesses
Payroll under industry EBAs, subcontractor payments, job level costs and the reporting that goes with them.
Small and service based businesses
Sole traders and small teams who want their books kept properly, their BAS lodged on time and someone to ask when they are unsure.
Areas served
How it works
Getting started takes one phone call.
We talk
A short conversation about your business, what software you are in, how many staff you pay and what is currently not working. No cost and no obligation.
You get a quote
Based on the actual volume of work rather than a package you do not need. If the file needs catch up work first, that is quoted separately so you can see it.
I take it on
Access set up in Xero or MYOB, a handover of where things stand, then a regular rhythm of reconciliations, pay runs, lodgements and reports.
About
Hello, I am Shabina.
Clarify Bookkeeping is a one person practice, so the person you speak to is the person doing your work.
I spent eleven years at Toll Group as a senior accounts officer, then moved into accounts and payroll management where the work has centred on NDIS compliance and award interpretation. Payroll that most people find difficult is the part I have done the most of, and it is the reason clients tend to come to me.
I hold a Masters in Professional Accounting from the University of Southern Queensland and I am currently working through the CPA Australia program. What I enjoy is the problem solving side of it, understanding what is going on in a business and making the finance side less of a worry for the person running it.

FAQ
Questions people ask before they call.
Can you lodge my BAS?
Yes. I am registered with the Tax Practitioners Board as a BAS agent, number 26364486, which is the registration required to prepare and lodge BAS and IAS on your behalf.
Do you do tax returns?
No. Income tax returns are the work of a registered tax agent, which is a different registration. I keep the books and lodgements right through the year and work alongside your accountant, which usually makes tax time faster and cheaper for you.
What is the SCHADS award and why does it matter?
It is the award covering most staff who work for NDIS providers. Broken shifts, sleepovers, travel time, on call and a long list of allowances all have their own rules, and payroll software will not apply them unless it is set up to. Errors compound quietly and back pay is expensive, so it is worth getting right from the start.
Do I have to change accounting software?
No. I work in Xero, where I hold Level 1 and Level 2 certification plus the payroll specialist certification, and I also work in MYOB. If you are already set up in either there is no reason to move.
Are you local, and do you work on site?
I am based in the Springfield Lakes area and cover Brisbane and Ipswich. Most work is done remotely which keeps the cost down, and on site visits can be arranged where they are genuinely useful.
What does NDIS plan management involve?
If your plan is plan managed, provider invoices come to me rather than to you. I process them, claim against the correct budget category, track what is left across the plan and keep the records clear so you can see where your funding is going.
How do you charge?
It depends on transaction volume, the number of staff on payroll and the current state of the file. Send a short description of your business and I will give you a quote rather than a guess.
Not sure whether you need a bookkeeper yet.
Call and describe the situation. If it is something you can handle yourself, or something that needs an accountant instead, I will tell you that.
